My Skin Care Routine at 63

Good skin is so important and I'm so grateful for mine at 63. I have a very simple and most importantly a

quick routine in the morning and again in the evening.

The best thing is it doesn't cost a bomb.

I spend less than $10 every 6 months.

Apart from caring for your skin , it goes hand in hand to care for your body as well. If you are eating junk food, little or no fruit and vegetables , smoking and drinking, it is going to show quickly on your skin.

You can maybe get away with this when you're young but I think once you hit 30 or 40 you just gotta pay attention to these things as well. We can still party but just have to do it more in moderation.

I have fascia blasted my face and body everyday for the last 9 years and it's all these little things that have contributed to having good skin. It doesn't take long and keeps the cellulite on my legs at bay.

I blast my face as well as per the video and it only takes a couple of minutes.

It's all the little things that add up. If you click on the pic it will take you to a link for my fave combined kit for face and body. Use code SHEILA10 for a 10% DISCOUNT on all products

I have also lately been making my own Vitamin C serum that I use in the morning, that has hyaluronic and ferulic acid in it. It is so easy and so inexpensive to make.

I have had some red broken capillaries on the end of my nose for about 40 years and I have tried many times to having them lasered off but with no success at all. I have been using my serum for about 5 weeks and it has just about disappeared.

I wasn't expecting that but I will take that thank you very much.

As its so inexpensive to make I am putting it on my arms, chest and legs as well as my face. I bought all the ingredients online here in Indonesia and I'm sure you could buy them off Ebay or Amazon.

I will give the ingredients and and recipe. Dead easy and quick to make.

After I make it, I put it into some small plastic bottles and I make enough for about a month at a time. This is the 2nd lot I have now made. I keep them in a dark cupboard after I have made it.

Vitamin C will only remain active for around a few weeks so I just make enough for no more than 4 weeks.

I have lived for most of my life in Queensland Australia that has the unenviable title of having the most skin cancer in the world. So, you can imagine that my skin has always been out in the sun and to be honest I hardly ever wore sun screen. These days I always sit under an umbrella when at the beach or a resort but even then you still get some colour on your skin even when using sunblock. I just use a supermarket brand 30 or 50+ sunscreen.

Evening routine

I will shower in the evening and wash my makeup off in there by using a teaspoon of baking soda mixed with a little water to make a paste and cleanse my face with that. Its a great exfoliator and leaves your skin squeaky clean. I will use an exfoliating glove on my face that you can buy anywhere in the world.

After my shower I will use my tretinoin gel 0.1% I use a pea size for my face. There will be a link if you click on the pictures for the various strengths. I have been using this for 9 plus years so my skin is very used to it.

I ALWAYS mix it with a little oil or thin body cream and that is a very important step as that way you will eliminate a reaction to the gel as it can cause dryness and redness.

It is a prescription strength product and should be treated with respect and it is the gold star in skin care.

I suggest if this is your first time that you use a weaker strength like 0.025% or 0.05% and you can work up.

In Australia and most countries you need a prescription from your doctor to buy it . In Indonesia and online you don't.

The links will be on all pics. I have been using this for 9 plus years so I absolutely swear by it.

There are certain people that shouldn't be using Tretinoin and these are pregnant , thinking about becoming pregnant, and breast feeding. Of course do your own due diligence on this.

From a personal point of view I have had only a positive experience and if you add a little oil you should have no problems.

I have also just started to put it on my chest, legs, and arms and I wouldn't expect to see improvement here for around 6 months. I use a pea size here and of course mixed with oil.

It doesn't matter what oil, but I use coconut oil as that's what I have in my cupboard.

Bed Time Routine

I haven't been using any serum going to bed but I am about to trial one that I have found that ticks all the boxes. I will do a blog on it after a few weeks.

I have been looking for a night serum for a while and this one seems to be the bomb with no water in it ....just product.

At present just before going to bed I will put a little more oil on my face and a little lanolin. Yes, it is greasy but your face feels nice and soft in the morning.

Morning routine

After I finish my 1 hour Bikram yoga, I will shower and and use a little baking soda mixed with water into a paste and clean my face with an exfoliating glove.

I then splash on my serum that I made myself. I will put this all over my face, neck, chest, arms and legs. It is so inexpensive that I can afford to do this. Immediately after I will also put on some coconut oil over my face and body.

The next thing I do is to put some Nivea cream ( the blue container and thick one) on my face, neck and chest. I've seen this in every country and very easy to find.

I will then put on some Vaseline body lotion on my body and I'm good to go. Don't stress about the body lotion as most supermarkets brands are just fine. I just buy what I can get my hands on in Indonesia. I just like the one pictured below.

So, as you can see its all pretty straightforward, and few product's required. If I was wearing waterproof mascara I would use the coconut oil to take it off.....no need to buy other products.

Summary

My number one product is definitely the Tretinoin.... do your due diligence and if you add the oil as I do you will have no problem. I really recommend starting off on the lower strength until your skin gets accustomed to it.

When I buy the Tretinoin I always buy about 5 at a time and I will also buy the Careprost for my long eyelashes. This makes the freight very cost effective.

I love the Careprost and have also been using that for 9 years and I have no need for extensions or false eyelashes. I just paint one drop onto the outer part of my eyelids each evening. You can see a difference here in about 14 days.

Always do your own due diligence.

They also have other great products for male and females that you may also like.

When ordering they will ask for a prescription but just ignore that part and move on. I have been using them for 9 years and found the service really good and even to Bali with Covid freight issues only takes about 2 weeks.

Recipe for my morning serum

12 tablespoons distilled water (60ml)

2 tablespoons Vitamin C powder (cosmetic grade)

1 1/2 teaspoon Hyaluronic Acid powder

1 teaspoon of Ferulic acid

2 tablespoon of coconut oil or oil of your choice

INSTRUCTIONS Thoroughly dissolve Vitamin C powder in distilled water. This takes quite a while and I will leave it sit for about 30 mins to dissolve.

I then add the Hyaluronic Acid powder and the Ferulic acid. It will be lumpy! Refrigerate for an hour, or so, then stir in the oil.

I like to get the lumps out by using a hand held blender. I then pour into containers.

Use generously over face, neck, and body at least once a day, followed by lotion or body oil.

NOTES

Of course you can adjust this recipe to whatever suits your skin. The Vitamin C can be bitey on your skin so adjust it accordingly so you don't get irritated

Just like any citrus juice, this will sting if used on broken or irritated skin.

I'm really happy with my skin at 63 and I just love sharing with you the cost effective products that I use. There is definitely no need to spend a bomb on skin care.

Here you can see a before makeup pic and after a little makeup. I don't wear a lot of makeup and here I am wearing @trinnylondon

So feel free to ask as many question as you like and I've been using the same products for 9 years and I have no intention of changing.

I will only ever show you products that I trust and I know that does the job at an affordable price for every woman.

I look forward to sharing with you in a few weeks the night serum that I will be trialling.

Have a fabulous week and don't forget to smile.

Sheila
